Ambassador Wael Nasser Eddin AL Assad
BIOGRAPHY
Ambassador Wael Al-Assad was born in Cairo, Egypt on 27th August 1952. He worke for over 45 years within the system of the League of Arab States, specifically as “ High Representative of the Arab League Secretary General for Disarmament and regional security”
In 1996 he became responsible for coordinating Arab positions on arms control and disarmament issues at different international forums and proposing policies to Arab League’s decision taking bodies.
He co-chaired the “Arab Governmental Committee on Elaborating a Draft Treaty on a Nuclear Weapons and Other WMD Free Zone in the Middle East” (1996 – 2007). He has worked extensively on cooperation with the UN system and on developing the Arab Leagues tool box for Conflict Prevention and Resolution.
Ambassador Al-Assad has been members of a number of research centres & think tanks including:
- Member of the Advisory Board of the UNSG on Disarmament Matters (2013-2017),
- Member of the Council of International Pugwash, since 2013.
- Member of the Board of the Vienna Centre for Disarmament & Non-Proliferation (VCDNP) 2014 – 2019
